Colorado is on alert for possible threat from the Aragua Train against police

The US Homeland Security Investigations Office issued a statement suggesting that the leaders of the Aragua Train would have authorized their members to shoot at uniformed officers in several cities in the state

Police authorities in major cities in Colorado, United States, are on alert for possible threats against uniformed officers from that state by the Tren de Aragua, a criminal gang of Venezuelan origin that has become international and has begun to have influence in that country.

Although specific details about the possible threats have not been revealed for security reasons, Caitlin Ford, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Police Department, the second largest city in the state, confirmed on Monday, August 5, that they are “working closely with other partner organizations to closely monitor the situation.”

Ford said the Colorado Springs Police Department is aware of a bulletin issued in late July by the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) about the possible presence of members of the Tren de Aragua in the Denver area and other locations in Colorado, and even in nearby states.

This bulletin, which has not been distributed, suggests that the leaders of the Tren de Aragua have authorized their members to shoot at uniformed officers in several cities of the state.

Speaking to local media, Ford said it is “constantly monitoring the situation” to be prepared and respond to any eventuality.

One of the measures adopted includes the review of images of tattoos associated with the Tren de Aragua, although it is known that many of the new members, especially the younger ones, avoid wearing them to hide their affiliation.

Nationally, HSI confirmed that the Tren de Aragua is operating in Colorado, although without providing further details, except that “apprehension and removal” of these gang members is a priority for immigration authorities.

This criminal organization apparently established its “headquarters” in the city of El Paso, Texas, and has already had clashes with law enforcement in Chicago and Miami.

Authorities estimate that the majority of the 42,000 migrants who have arrived in the city since November 2022 are Venezuelans.
