San Juan. – Producers in the San Juan Valley support the measure of the Department of Plant Health of the Ministry of Agriculture to eliminate crops that are hosts of thrips and whiteflies, in order to guarantee the next production of beans.

Francisco Mejia, producer of pigeon peas, said that he supports the measure, since this allows for having fields free of pests and insects that affect their production.

At the beginning of this stage, 13,227 will be eliminated. tasks of sweet potato, 6,690 of pigeon peas and 748 tasks of peanuts, all host crops for thrips and whiteflies.

Rosa Lazala, Director of Health Vegetableasked producers to provide all support and join the elimination measures in the region, with the purpose of having a good production of beans and avoiding losses like last year, where pests caused damage abundant in the zone.

Meanwhile, Juan Mateo, regional director of the Southwest, said that in addition to the heavy equipment and tractors they use for the work, Agriculture will support with the preparation of landseeds and inputs, in order to have good productivity in the upcoming harvest of the region’s flagship product, which are beans.
