News Bogota.

In a regrettable incident that occurred on the Bogotá-Villeta highway, an off-duty police officer ran over a married couple who were on vacation in the region.

The Cundinamarca Police revealed the results of an investigation in which it was determined that the officer was driving while intoxicated.

How did the events unfold?

According to investigations, the police officer, whose name has not been revealed, was driving at high speed and under the influence of alcohol.

The tragic incident occurred when the police officer lost control of the vehicle and hit the couple, who were resting on the side of the road.

Alejandro, the victim’s husband, recounted the dramatic moment: “We were resting when a car came at full speed and ran over my wife. It sent her flying into the abyss of the Villeta River. The driver, a policeman, tried to flee, but was forced to get into the ambulance.”

Serious consequences for the woman who was run over

The 30-year-old woman suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Bogotá. Medical authorities reported that she unfortunately lost one of her legs due to the severity of the accident.

The officer was subjected to a breathalyzer test which revealed the presence of 2 degrees of alcohol in his blood.

Despite the police officer’s attempts to deny his responsibility, the evidence and testimonies clearly point to his guilt. Alejandro, visibly affected, demanded justice: “The driver was a police officer from Tobia, Cundinamarca. We are asking for justice because he is putting up many obstacles and denying being the driver, but I saw him driving.”

The community and the families of the victims are calling for strict measures and justice to be done in this serious case of irresponsibility.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Cundinamarca have assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out and that the corresponding sanctions will be applied.

“On July 7, an accident occurred, which left two people injured who were transferred to the city of Bogotá and the municipality of Facatativá. During the procedure, it was possible to identify that the alleged aggressor is a member of the institution who was given a drunkenness test and tested positive for second-degree intoxication,” said Colonel Andrés Serna Bustamante, commander of the Cundinamarca Police Department.
