According to preliminary reports, Martínez Nogues was returning from covering an accident in the municipality of Villagrán, when subjects in a van caught up with the vehicle in which he was traveling and shot at the people on board.
At least one of the police officers was injured, while the journalist known as the founder of the media outlet ‘El hijo del llanero solitito’ lost his life in the attack, according to reports.
“Today, unfortunately, Alejandro Alfredo Martínez Nogués has been the victim of an attack. Our deepest condolences to his family; we wish him a speedy resignation and we hope that justice is done and that the full weight of the law falls on those responsible,” was published on the website of this media outlet.
The municipal president of Apaseo el Grande, José Luis Oliveros Usabiaga, lamented the murder of the journalist on Facebook.
Martínez Noguez had already been the target of a previous attack. On November 28, 2022, he reported that two armed men tried to kill him at his family’s home.
The men then pretended to be looking for him to advertise a business in their media outlet. However, upon seeing the journalist, one of them pulled out a gun, but the reporter’s sister managed to close the door.
