Canada asks its citizens not to travel to Israel due to rising tensions in the Middle East

Washington, Aug 3 (EFE).- The Canadian government on Saturday issued an alert asking its citizens to avoid any travel to Israel due to the conflict in the Middle East, where fears are growing of an Iranian attack in retaliation for Israeli operations against leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Canadian authorities urged people to avoid visits to Israel “due to the ongoing regional armed conflict and unpredictable security situation” which “could deteriorate further without warning.”

The government warned that an escalation of the conflict could lead to flight disruptions, including airspace closures, and that Canadian authorities could not guarantee assisted evacuation.

Canada’s warning comes at a time of heightened tension following Israel’s assassination in Beirut of Hezbollah’s top commander, Fuad Shukr, and the death in Tehran of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, in an attack widely blamed on the Jewish state.

Israel is working with the United States to coordinate a new international coalition to thwart a possible response from Iran and Hezbollah, who have promised retaliation. EFE
