Government supporters and public workers lead march in support of Maduro

President Nicolás Maduro said this Saturday, August 3, from a rally in Miraflores that more than 2,000 people have been arrested and assured that they will receive the “maximum punishment.” He stressed that there will be no forgiveness, “this time there will be Tocorón.”


This Saturday, August 3, government supporters and public administration workers marched to support President Nicolás Maduro, following the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in which he was declared the winner of the presidential elections.

The pro-government mobilization started from Libertador Avenue near the Cantv headquarters to the Miraflores Palace in downtown Caracas. On Tuesday, July 30, President Nicolás Maduro said that citizens would remain in the streets to defend the country’s peace. According to the ruler, the opposition would seek to install acts of violence in the nation.

When the crowd reached Urdaneta Avenue, supporters gathered at various points to listen to the president, who in this afternoon’s speech reported that more than 2,000 people have been arrested for allegedly being involved in acts of vandalism.

Zoraida Caballero, for her part, said that the president, who according to the CNE has been reelected for the second time, has made a great effort to remain in the midst of attacks. “The one who got the most votes won the elections. We respect the opposition in their voting, but they should respect the results given by the CNE,” she added.

Meanwhile, Aidé Romero stressed that Maduro can count on the people. “We are peace. We are in the streets because we love them and because we will defend them with our lives,” she said.

The president accused the opposition of having hired supposedly “new generation” groups that were trained. “80% of the nearly 2,000 arrested were found to have participated in acts of vandalism. They were trained in the United States, Peru and Chile.”
