The Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jimenezhighlighted this Saturday that the people of Venezuela have been facing cyber attacks in recent days, and shared the details of a plan structured by large hegemonic and destabilizing interests, as well as the way in which the country faces this threat.
Through a post on her X account, the vice president for Science, Technology, Education and Health also explained that it is precisely through popular technological platforms such as that same social network belonging to Elon Musk, together with Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta, that an atypical cyberwar scenario is being configured.
“In Venezuela, they do not want votes or minutes. Their interests are oil, gas reserves, water, coltan, rare earths and other natural resources,” Jiménez said.
He also stressed that the people are fighting alongside President Nicolás Maduro, through their intelligence and the social organization of the communities, to impose love and peace in the country.
True power is communicational
Firstly, he explained that this cyberwar scenario has a communication component that is perversely used by the owners of the main social networks, who “have the power to decide and influence the type of information that is disseminated, goes viral and is communicated massively at a global level, the dominance and dictatorship of algorithms.”
In this regard, he explained that, in addition to their financial power, their true power is communicational power, through which they generate biases and distort information, creating opinion matrices adjusted to their corporate and hegemonic interests.
On the other hand, he warned that in this unconventional war they use hate-inciting strategies and censor the people who elected President Nicolas Maduro to hide the reality. To do so, media laboratories spread false information that disturbs the tranquility, emotions and peace of Venezuelans.
“It is simply terrorism carried out through digital media using information and communication technologies,” the Minister denounced.
Venezuela under cyber attacks
The head of Science and Technology also explained in the publication that the country has been the target of millions of cyberattacks generated by bot infrastructures, orchestrated from the United States and Colombia.
“Through distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS) they overload websites, servers or use network resources with malicious traffic. The main objectives of the far right are aimed at collapsing the technological infrastructure of public services, electricity, communication and information, banking and finance, telecommunications, health, elections, transportation, among other sensitive areas,” explained the Minister.
One of the most recent fascist attacks was perpetrated against Conviasain response to which – the airline itself stated – they acted by safeguarding all the information of the Venezuelan flag airline.
In this regard, Jimenez stressed that the country has an army of engineers and state scientists with whom they have repelled all attacks and malicious and destabilizing actions.
