Maduro: “We will not accept” that the opposition “attempts to usurp” the presidency of Venezuela

Nicolas Maduro said on Saturday that the opposition’s attempt to usurp the presidency “will not be accepted,” amid questions about his re-election for a third term that sparked strong protests.

“We will not accept, under national laws, any attempt to usurp the presidency again,” Maduro said at a rally in which he drew a parallel between opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who is claiming victory in the July 28 elections, and leader Juan Guaidó, who was internationally recognized as interim president in 2019.
