Clash leaves eight dead in Abasolo, Tamaulipas

Clash leaves eight dead in Abasolo, Tamaulipas

The shooting occurred after the arrest of relatives of José Luis Chávez Hernández, alias “El Flaco”, who is accused of being the leader of a criminal group in the region.

The confrontation allegedly began in a hotel in the municipality of Jiménez, where State Guard agents were staying. The criminals opened fire on the officers and provoked chases and shootouts that lasted several hours.

Tamaulipas authorities are offering a reward of 850 thousand pesos to anyone who helps capture Chávez Hernández.

The confrontation in Tamaulipas occurred a few hours after Femsa announced the resumption of activities at its stores, following several days of halts due to insecurity in the region.

Tamaulipas, governed by Morena’s Américo Villarreal, has been an entity submerged in violence for years due to its geographical location that makes it a key route for drug trafficking, migrant trafficking and fuel theft, but in recent years it has managed to stop being the first places in intentional homicides.

Currently, four cells of the Gulf Cartel and two of Los Zetas are fighting over 80,249 kilometers of the state.

From the Gulf Cartel the cells are Los Metros, Los Ciclones, Los Rojos and Las Panteras and from Los Zetas the Zetas Vieja Escuela and the Northeast Cartel.
