María Corina Machado: “I do not accept that we are being blackmailed, equating victims with perpetrators”

María Corina Machado assured that today the whole world knows the truth and that every day there are more countries that recognize Edmundo González as the new president-elect.

“I do not accept that we are being blackmailed, equating victims with perpetrators,” said María Corina Machado this Saturday, August 3, at a rally on Alfredo Sadel Avenue in Las Mercedes.

The opposition leader said that today the whole world knows the truth and that every day more countries recognize Edmundo González as the new president-elect, this after the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Nicolás Maduro the winner in the presidential elections of last July 28.

Machado said that in recent days, “we have seen the darkest side of the dictatorship, they have entered homes and believe that this will go unpunished. We do not have firearms, it is the regime that uses them against the population, protesting civilly and peacefully is not violence.”

In this sense, he said that today fear is elsewhere and stressed that what the country wants is to move forward. “Listen carefully, ours is a civic and peaceful struggle, but it is not weak. We do not hide and we do not fall for provocations, we do not attack, because ours is a struggle that transcends the political.”

The opposition leader reiterated that the election was already won and that now a new stage is coming. “Just as it took us a long time to achieve the electoral victory, now comes a stage that we live day by day, but we have never been as strong as we are today and the regime has never been so weak.”

He stressed that they will not give up the right to peaceful protest and asked his followers to be alert and vigilant.

“There is confidence, we continue to move forward and we are united. We know what we want to do and we are doing it well. July 28 marks a milestone from which a transition to democracy began in Venezuela. You are the heroes of this victory, every Venezuelan who did not give up,” he said.
