Álvaro Delgado already has a Minister of Economy

The former president of the Central Bank of Uruguay, Diego Labat, would be the Minister of Economy if Álvaro Delgado (multicolor coalition or republican coalition) wins the elections.

For Labat, who resigned from the BCU to devote himself to politics, he said that Uruguay’s next challenge is to “take a leap” to have a country that is “cheaper, both to live in and to produce.”

“During this period, there was only one economic team that coordinated every Monday at 9 a.m.,” he added.

Delgado wrote on his X account: “Labat presided over the BCU in challenging years, but his vision, solvency and serenity allowed him, together with a great economic team, to achieve important goals that benefit us all. One of them was achieving the lowest inflation in 18 years, something that seems far away but that makes salaries go further. Thank you, Diego, for your enormous contribution in these years and for your commitment to continue working for the future of the country.”
