Santo Domingo.-The Emergency Operations Center (COE) increased this Thursday to five provinces in “yellow alert“, plus the National District, and maintains 13 in green, due to the rain that has been recorded and that which is forecast for the next few hours.
The rains are caused by a localized disturbance over the country, which continues to strengthen and is expected to become a tropical depression in a couple of days, according to the forecast of the United States National Hurricane Center (CNH).
The provinces in yellow are El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samana, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, Santo Domingo, plus the National District.

Another 13 districts are on “green alert”, including Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel and Juan Sánchez Ramírez, in the north, plus Monte Plata (southeast), and La Altagracia, in the east.
In addition, San Pedro de Macorís and La Romana (in the east), Bahoruco, Independencia, San Juan and Elías Piña (south), where significant rainfall is expected in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) urged the population to remain attentive to the official information that the authorities will issue in the coming hours.
If it becomes a tropical depression, it would be the third of its kind in the current hurricane season in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, which has already seen two named storms, one of which (Beryl) has reached hurricane status.
The first storm was Alberto, which formed in June, while Hurricane Beryl passed through the Caribbean in July,
Between 17 and 25 named storms are forecast for this season, of which thirteen could reach hurricane status, meaning winds of at least 118 kilometers per hour.
