Hurt, not because of the physical discomfort that had affected her moments before, but because of the disappointment of not having been able to reach the goal she had set. Our two-time world champion Kimberly García came in 16th place in the 20-kilometer race walk competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Although she had a good start and was several metres ahead of the group of female marchers, she gradually fell behind. The cause, she said, was a stomach ailment.
“The truth is that it was a pretty tough day for me, we had very high and realistic expectations. I was in top shape, very good physically, psychologically, but there are certain things that sometimes you can’t control and they get out of your hands. That was the case today. I didn’t feel very well, I tried to find good feelings throughout the competition but I never found them, I had some stomach problems and I couldn’t do anything,” he pointed.
Kimberly García was hoping for the same thing as the whole country: to get on the podium. She was not short of desire and the faith of all Peruvians accompanied her. She was motivated to do things well, but this time it didn’t happen.
“Things happen for a reason, you don’t know why. It’s super painful, but you have to learn to get up.”he indicated.
Kimberly García knows that the support she has shown and the affection of the population are still valid and this August 7th we will continue to encourage her so that she can get her revenge.
“We have a mixed relay competition with my teammate César (Rodríguez) and we are going to give our best, I hope that day will be very different. I also thank, obviously I will not forget it, all the Peruvian people who have been present,” The mixed relay marathon race walking competition will take place at 12:30 am (Peruvian time) on Wednesday, August 7.
