AMLO's first reforms are moving forward in the Commission; the judicial reform will be on August 20

The majority of Morena and its allies approved modifying the rules for discussing and voting on the opinions. In the Commission’s session today, nine opinions were to be discussed and approved, but five were removed in order to proceed with the approval of only four opinions.

Another package of six opinions will be discussed and approved on August 9, most of them reforms related to Article 4 of the Constitution.

But on August 15, “the date for the ruling on the extinction of self-employed workers will be set,” explained the president of the Commission, Juan Ramiro Robledo, of Morena.

“A draft opinion on judicial reform may be circulated on that day” and, in accordance with the Regulations, it must be addressed in Committee within five days after its circulation, that is, on August 20.

As previously agreed, all the resolutions will be ready to be voted on by the 66th Legislature, which begins in September, with a new majority of Morena and its allies.

They start with disputes

The Commission’s session got off to a long start, due to the change in the agenda to postpone five reforms scheduled for today, and due to the complaints of several deputies.

Representative Paulina Rubio, from the National Action Party (PAN), explained her vote against the agenda, since the resolution submitted for discussion did not even include the conclusions of the supposed forums held in April on that and other amendments, and the conclusions of the forums were never delivered.

He also warned that there were opinions that brought together disparate topics, which is not allowed, “topics such as medicine, the environment, genetically modified corn, and animal welfare were brought together,” he said.

Former Morena member Susana Prieto accused that as a deputy, even though she is no longer from Morena or the Commission, she should have had access to the preliminary reports and was illegally denied them with the argument that she is not a member of that commission, from which she was removed with an illegible signature. “I don’t even know who signed it,” she said.
