A young mining engineer who was at home was seriously injured after being hit in the abdomen by a bullet that bounced off a vehicle during a intervention carried out by the Police to alleged smugglers in the Santa Teresita settlement, in the province of Sullana.
It happened around 10 a.m. yesterday, when a group of police officers aboard an official vehicle followed a van where, apparently, its occupants were transporting contraband along the third block of La Brea Street.
According to neighbors, during the chase, the police officers allegedly fired at the tires of the truck and one of the shots bounced off and hit the abdomen of a young professional who was standing in front of his house on that block of La Brea.
This is the case of the mining engineer, David Renato Zapata Frías, 25 years old, who was taken by his aunt to the Support Hospital II-2 on Santa Rosa Avenue, where the doctor diagnosed him with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Those close to the young man indicated that he had undergone an operation yesterday and remains hospitalized in the hospital, where the Police Department of Criminal Investigation (Depincri) in charge of the investigation arrived.
They also requested an investigation to clarify the incident that occurred in the town of Sullana.
It is worth mentioning that on July 12 of last year, alleged smugglers burned two trucks with merchandise inside a garage at the intersection of La Brea Street and Las Lomas transversal in Santa Teresita.
This happened because moments before, the Police chased some smugglers who ignored them and broke into the garage where they set fire to the vehicles and caused a huge explosion and alarmed the neighbors.
