Micro and small businesses generate six out of ten jobs in June

Micro and small businesses (MSEs) were responsible for 57.5% of the 201,705 businesses created in the country with a formal employment contract in June, the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) reported today (1st).Micro and small businesses generate six out of ten jobs in June

In the month, micro and small businesses generated 115,907 jobs, while medium and large enterprises (MGEs) contributed 63,953 of the new jobs. Thus, of every ten jobs generated, six are in MSEs.

A survey by Sebrae – based on data from the new General Registry of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) – shows that the sectors that led job creation among SMEs were Services (49,018 vacancies); Commerce (27,443) and Construction (18,753).

In the item of medium and large companies, the segments that created the most jobs were: Services (32,024 new vacancies), Manufacturing Industry (13,101) and Agriculture (8,343).

Proportionally, the states in which SMEs created the most jobs were Amazonas (2,532), with a balance of 16.47 jobs for every thousand created; Acre (629 jobs and a balance of 15.31 for every thousand jobs created); and Maranhão, with 3,494 and a balance of 15.28 for every thousand jobs created.

Lower volume

Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul were those that presented the lowest volume of job creation proportionally. Rio Grande do Sul – hit by floods between April and May – had a negative generation of -5,100 jobs and a negative balance of -3.67 jobs for every thousand created.

Paraná created 6,619 jobs, with a balance of 4.66 jobs for every thousand created. Mato Grosso do Sul created 1,392 jobs and had a balance of 4.72 jobs for every thousand created.

The Sebrae survey also shows that, in June, SMEs generated 115,907 formal jobs in the North region, a balance of 11.8 jobs for every thousand created.

The Northeast created 29,725 jobs and registered a balance of 9.63 jobs for every thousand created. The Southeast generated 54,896 5.72 jobs in June, with a balance of 9.63 for every thousand jobs; the Central-West had 13,688 jobs and a balance of 8.09 for every thousand created. The South had 7,258 new jobs and a balance of 1.85 for every thousand created.

In the year to June, the country closed the first half of the year with a positive balance of 1,300,044 new jobs. “Of this total, SMEs were responsible for 777,222 jobs, which is equivalent to 59.8% of the total number of jobs created, while MGEs formalized 395,850, 30.4% of the total number of jobs,” concluded Sebrae.
