The President of Congress, Eduardo Salhuana, assured that the legislative branch fully supports the words of Foreign Minister Olaechea and emphasized that Latin American countries should demand transparent elections in Venezuela.
The speaker of Parliament, Eduardo Salhuanaindicated that Congress supports the position taken by the Foreign Ministry and the Executive Branch, in relation to the electoral fraud that has been occurring in Venezuela.
In statements to the press, he stressed The speech that Foreign Minister Javier González Olaechea gave before the OAS“The legislative branch considers the statements and the staunch defense of democracy pertinent, because it was a principled defense that Foreign Minister Olaechea made at the OAS, and we feel fully identified with it.”
“No more human rights violations, no more persecution,” he stressed. He also urged Latin American countries to defend democracy in their neighbouring country, demanding transparency in elections and respect for popular choice.
The Board of Directors’ statement was by consensus
Following the statements of Vice President Waldemar Cerrón Indicating that the Board of Directors of Congress would be in consensus with the opinion of the congressmen who traveled to Venezuela to fulfill the role of observers, Salhuana indicated that the individual positions of said parliamentarians who traveled to Caracas are their exclusive responsibility.
“The position of two or three colleagues who were able to travel to Caracas and express their point of view is the exclusive individual responsibility of each of them,” he said.
“Congress, through its Board of Directors, has expressed its support for the return of democracy and respect for the self-determination of the Venezuelan people,” he concluded.
