The president of the republic, Nicolás Maduro, filed this Wednesday a appeal for protection before the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) in order to resolve the attempted coup d’état that has been denounced by several authorities and the attack on the electoral system.
“I have asked that the Supreme Court of Justice be the one to process what is called an electoral dispute. The Constitutional, legal path that Venezuela has (…) before the massive Attackin the face of an attempted criminal coup d’état, in the circumstances of an international attack and threat, it should be the Supreme Court of Justice, in a sovereign manner, that processes what is called an electoral dispute,” the Executive declared.
This electoral contentious resource is contemplated in the Organic Law of Electoral Processes, being a figure that can be used by any of the actors participating in an electoral process.
The journalist of Últimas Noticias, Eligio Rojas, explained in a video published by Madelein Garcia on his account on the social network X, that this procedure carried out by the president is done in response to the complaint made by the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, that “there had been a technological intervention (…) that altered the moment they had to give the results, the transmission of data.”
He also recalled that after midnight on the 28th of July elections, a political sector presented figures that they consider to be the real ones.
As he did in 2017 in response to the situation in the country, the head of state once again turned to the legal system, in this case the Supreme Court, to find a solution to what is happening, Rojas explained.
Maduro will present 100% of the minutes
In introducing the electoral appeal, the president requested that all candidates, party representatives and others involved in the process be summoned, that the evidence be compared and that the results of July 28 be certified by a high-level technical commission.
The president also announced that he will present 100% of the electoral records that show his victory with more than 50% of the votes in last Sunday’s elections.
Other actors who participated in the electoral process will also be able to present any evidence they have that supports their claims about the results of July 28.
