Spirit Airlines, based in Miramar, Florida, United States, widely recognized in Nicaragua for offering flights at low prices, decided to temporarily cancel “all flights to and from Nicaragua,” confirmed the travel agency Aeromundo, through a statement posted on social media.

Spirit flights to and from Nicaragua, according to the letter, will be canceled “from the beginning of September until the beginning of December 2024,” that is, for a period of three consecutive months.

Spirit Airlines operates flights departing from Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua to select destinations in the United States, primarily to Fort Lauderdale International Airport in Florida, from which connections can be made to other states in the country.

Article 66 The company searched through the airline’s social media and website and verified that it has not reported any cancellations of its flights to and from Nicaragua. However, according to the publication of the travel agency Aeromundo, they have communicated directly with those who sell their tickets.

The current cancellation of Spirit Airlines flights occurs in a context in which the United States Government, since February of this year, has intensified sanctions against transport companies and airline executives that it considers promote irregular migration to the United States, using Nicaragua as a stopover.

In November last year, US authorities initially implemented visa restrictions on charter flight operators arriving in the country.

Palacios reiterated the importance of peace, love and respect in the face of “whatever circumstance the world is going through.” Although political questions were avoided during the press conference she gave in Panama, the beauty queen took advantage of the farewell to send a message to Venezuela.

Venezuela is experiencing political tension following the presidential elections of July 28, in which the Chavista National Electoral Council announced the leftist Nicolás Maduro as the winner for a third presidential term without presenting all the official records, which led to massive protests throughout the country.

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) on Wednesday rejected a resolution demanding transparency from the Venezuelan government regarding Sunday’s disputed elections, which gave victory to Nicolás Maduro, as he did not achieve an absolute majority of its member states.

The draft proposal of the organization of 34 American countries received 17 votes in favor, zero against and 11 abstentions among the States that participated in the extraordinary meeting.

Five countries, including Venezuela, rejected the call.

Among those who abstained were Colombia and Brazil, who had asked Maduro’s government to publish the electoral records from Sunday to clarify any doubts about the elections.
