Brian A. Nichols said that the minutes – presented by the opposition – show that González Urrutia beat Nicolás Maduro on July 28
Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere, Brian A. Nicholsstated on Wednesday, July 31, that there is “irrefutable” evidence of the victory of the leader of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, in the elections last Sunday, July 28, over President Nicolás Maduro.
This was stated by Nichols during the OAS session – in which the motion to demand that the CNE publish the disaggregated minutes was not successful – where he explained that the “minutes” – those in the possession of the opposition sector and which they uploaded on the Internet – show a clear victory of González Urrutia over Maduro.
“With irrefutable evidence based on the voting records, which everyone can see, it is clear” that the opposition politician “defeated Nicolás Maduro by millions of votes”
“This is not a projection, even if Maduro wins 100% of the votes in the less than 20% of the minutes that remain to be published, he would not be able to overtake González,” he continued.

In his speech, Brian A. Nichols urged both Maduro and other countries “in the world” to recognize González Urrutia as the winner of the elections.
“Those who do not do so are allowing Maduro and his representatives to carry out a massive attempt at fraud and disregard for the order of the law,” the official stressed.

Meanwhile, President Nicolás Maduro said that the National Electoral Council (CNE) has not been able to show all the electoral records because it is fighting a “cybernetic battle.” He referred to the request he made to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to carry out an expert appraisal of the election results.
Maduro made these statements in the afternoon of July 31st. He said that the Supreme Court will have its “final say.” He explained that with the appeal he asked the TSJ to process what is called an electoral dispute in light of the attack on the Electoral Power and the attempted coup d’état.
He pointed out that this is contemplated in the 1999 Constitution. He added that the highest court will be in charge of elucidating the events of July 28 and those that occurred in the following days with clarity. “Only the electoral chamber has the power to intervene and resolve any electoral dispute. We are ready to deliver the minutes to the TSJ when they so request,” he said.
