Lara Chamber of Commerce rejects violent attacks and asks the CNE to publish results

Breaking news: CNE relocates 27 voting centers

Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Lara maintain that the complete publication of the 28 July vote count is a fundamental element to give certainty to the results that they have made public so far. They rejected the violent attacks against public institutions and private establishments.

The Chamber of Commerce of Lara State (CCL) issued a statement on Wednesday, July 31, regarding the presidential elections in Venezuela, and what has happened around them since the presidential elections of July 28.

In a report published by Momentumthe union requested that the authorities of the National Electoral Council (CNE) publish the detailed results of the presidential election on Sunday, July 28, as soon as possible in accordance with current legislation, which is a clamor both nationally and internationally, beyond ideological and political tendencies. This is a fundamental element to give certainty to the results that have been made public so far.

Likewise, the Chamber of Commerce of Lara rejected violent attacks against public institutions and private establishments, which have occurred since last Monday amid protests against the results given by the CNE that declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential elections.

The capital Barquisimeto woke up this Wednesday wrapped in an unusual calm in relation to the events that have occurred in recent days. The streets, traditionally busy, were almost deserted, with few public transport units in circulation and a considerable decrease in the opening of shops, reported Momentum. There is also a notable decrease in citizen activity, especially in the eastern and central areas of the city.

The full text of the statement is below:

We categorically repudiate acts of vandalism against public and private property. We urge the population not to confuse the legitimate right to peaceful protest with acts of vandalism. The attacks and destruction that we have been able to verify firsthand and through social networks only inflict harm on the creative efforts of the affected businessmen, causing property losses and the disappearance of sources of work. In addition to damage to public property, which, regardless of social and political status, benefits us all to a greater or lesser extent. These types of acts do little to vindicate the noble and pacifist character of the Venezuelan people.

We call for peace and understanding: Venezuelans, faithful to our long-standing civic spirit, have the capacity to resolve differences by exercising our rights within a framework of mutual respect. Venezuela demands that we heed its call with the maturity that will allow us to resolve our controversies in a healthy peace.

We fully subscribe to each and every one of the statements issued by Fedecámaras Nacional and Fedecámaras Lara published today (July 30, 2024). The union is present at this important moment in our country, in the same way that we reiterate our commitment to democracy, republican values and service to our country, as we have demonstrated for more than 123 years of experience.
