Minseg organizes human chain to commemorate the International Day Against Human Trafficking

The Institutional Office against Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Public Security organized a human chain and planted blue hearts as a symbolic act in support of the campaign against human trafficking, a crime against humanity.

July 30 was designated by the United Nations member states as the “World Day against Trafficking”, with the aim of raising awareness about the situation of victims of human trafficking and promoting the protection of their rights.

Regarding the commemoration of this date, the Minister of Public Security, Frank Abrego, stressed the importance of raising public awareness and reporting crime. “We must analyze ourselves and see what we can do to ensure that this does not continue.”

The director of the Institutional Office against Human Trafficking, Yilena Sandoval, said that this symbolic act reflects the commitment of the National Government to fight against this crime against humanity, which violates people’s rights.

“The Commission and the Institutional Office against Human Trafficking have carried out intensive work, focused on providing psychosocial assistance, legal advice, medical assistance, educational and professional training to victims, in order to guarantee their safety and safeguard their lives, within the framework of respect for human rights,” explained Director Sandoval.

So far this year, 31 cases of potential victims of human trafficking have been detected. “This puts us on alert to increase our actions, detect these cases, and arrest those who break the law and violate the integrity of these people,” he added.

Sandoval thanked the Public Force and national and international organizations for their support in this fight.

“Likewise, we are joining forces to fulfill the commitment we have made to the region and the world, to protect and support victims, pursue this scourge and put an end to impunity.”
