Voluntad Popular denounces “torture” against Freddy Superlano “to confess false plan”

The leader Freddy Superlano was arrested on Tuesday morning by officials of the National Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Command (Conas) at the entrance of a building in Sebucán, Sucre municipality of Miranda state. His wife reported that she has not been able to find out his whereabouts, as well as those of his cousin and the driver who were accompanying him.

The Voluntad Popular party denounced on Tuesday night, July 30, that its national political coordinator, Freddy Superlano, was being subjected to torture in order to link him to alleged plans “set up by spokesmen for the regime.”

“We have received information from sources linked to Chavismo about the practice of torture against our National Political Coordinator Freddy Superlano, with the aim of making him confess to the false plan set up by spokesmen of the regime such as Tarek William Saab,” the party stated in a publication in social networks.

VP demanded support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, “to help us corroborate the health of our brother Freddy and to allow his family and lawyers to see him and verify his physical integrity.”

The party also expressed its concern “about the repetition of practices classified as crimes against humanity,” which it recalled are under investigation by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. “Two reminders: Being involved in politics is not a crime. Crimes against humanity do not have a statute of limitations.”

The leader Freddy Superlano was arrested on Tuesday morning by officers of the National Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Command (Conas) at the entrance of a building in Sebucán, Sucre municipality of Miranda state. His arrest was recorded amid tensions over the election results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential election.

His wife reported that she has not been able to find out his whereabouts, nor those of his cousin and the driver who accompanied him. The Attorney General’s Office, in the hands of Tarek William Saab, had also not issued any information as of the closing of this note.
