The operation of the Local Public Electoral Organizations (OPLES) of Zacatecas and Yucatan is at high risk due to the lack of financial resources, according to a report approved yesterday by the National Electoral Institute (INE) committees.
Those in Guerrero, Morelos, Oaxaca, San Luis Potosí and Chiapas are at moderate risk, as detailed by the Commission for Liaison with Local Public Organizations, chaired by Councilor Dania Ravel.
It was explained that these electoral bodies have problems in carrying out electoral process activities, those of an ordinary nature and in their operation in the second half of the year. Some of them even have debts with the INE.
In particular, it was mentioned that those from Zacatecas and Yucatán have been in permanent dialogue with local governments to express the need for more economic resources to be allocated to them. The former will request a budget increase of 16.4 million pesos to cover its operation in the remaining months of the year.
As for Yucatan, it was reported that it requested an additional 56.5 million pesos since January, but they have not yet been authorized, so it announced that it will adjust its internal budget, because if it does not do so, it could lack resources to cover staff benefits starting in October.
