Former presidents of the Dominican Republic and Colombia, Leonel Fernandez and Ernesto Samper, On Monday night, they presented their recommendations for a possible solution to the situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, following the presidential election process held last Sunday.
Fernandez and Samper, who were invited by Venezuela’s National Electoral Council to act as observers of Sunday’s process, have issued a joint statement setting out their recommendations.
“In view of how the presidential electoral process carried out in Venezuela On Sunday, July 28, we propose:
Emphasize the value of maintaining peace and avoiding all forms of violence that cause death, destruction, destabilization and pain.
That the CNE, as suggested by the general secretary of the UN and the Carter Center, ensure the transparency of the electoral process by publishing all the minutes of the vote count, broken down by centre and voting table.
As they explain: “This first step is essential to enable all interested parties to access the information necessary for a thorough review. It is crucial that such a process is perceived as impartial and objective by all parties involved.”
