The 20,000 spectators who packed the Bercy Arena in Paris experienced one of the most exciting moments, when Simone Biles put her heart and soul into a choreography that brought silence to the audience, between turns, jumps and somersaults.
Not even the pain in her left calf, the result of a problem she has had since before the Games, was a reason to stop her. Her performance and that of her compatriots began with the vault. Biles shined in front of the best of spectators: her husband, Jonathan Owens, who was in the stands after requesting special permission from the Green Bay Packers of the NFL.
In the end, the U.S. team scored 44.100 on the vault, 43.332 on the uneven bars, 41.699 on the beam, and 42.165 on the floor. For a total score of 171.296. Error-free, solid, and methodical, they left no doubt that the title belonged to the United States.
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team held the American flag and jumped around posing for fans after securing their victory. They ran onto the track, not holding back their excitement as they moved to various spots on the podium to give fans a chance to see them.
