The details of the arrest of “El Mayo” and one of the “Chapitos” have not been made clear to Mexico.
The government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has become entangled in the details, since five days after the capture in El Paso, Texas, it is unknown where the aircraft left from, why if “El Chapito” had negotiated to surrender to the United States, the capture included “El Mayo”, and it is also unclear whether agents of the US government participated in Mexican territory.
Mexico has requested information from the United States, which provided a document with seven points explaining that Joaquín Guzmán López had already tried to surrender to the authorities, but that it was not until Thursday morning that it was learned that he was on a flight to that country and later that “El Mayo” was also on board.
“The information we have is that letter from the Embassy, so if there is more information, we should give more information and not speculate either,” Sheinbaum said about the letter.
Regarding the criticism that has arisen because Mexico did not contribute to the arrest of the two leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, Sheinbaum highlighted that the current government has arrested several criminals.
“Mexico has arrested various organized crime figures now under the government of President López Obrador and the current prosecutor (Alejandro Gertz Manero) has extradited them. It is not that nothing has been done, in fact the violence has decreased,” he said.
