Socialist International urges the CNE to recount votes

The organization expressed its concern about the current situation in the country, following the results offered by the CNE and which have been rejected by the Venezuelan opposition.

The Socialist International has joined the various organizations, personalities and countries that have urged the National Electoral Council to recount the votes from the presidential election on July 28.

In a statement released on July 30, the Socialist International expressed its concern about the current situation in the country, following the results offered by the CNE and which have been rejected by the Venezuelan opposition.

The organization urged the CNE to recount the votes and thoroughly verify the election results to “ensure that they faithfully reflect the will of the Venezuelan people.”

“We commend the determination of the Venezuelan people, who came out to vote in large numbers and peacefully (…) this verification must include a complete recount of all the records, which must be provided without further delay by the National Electoral Council of Venezuela.”
