The Cuban regime will export 3,800 doctors to Mexico, not 2,700

AREQUIPA, Peru – Zoé Robledo, general director of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), said that 3,800 doctors will be exported by the Cuban regime, who would be added, in the coming months, to the 1,200 that They already work in that countrythus completing the 5,000.

The fact comes a couple of weeks after Robledo himself announced the hiring of 2,700 Cuban doctors, about 1,100 less than those reported this Monday in the newspaper The Day.

The official said that the 30% shortage of professionals needed in rural areas will be covered by Cuban doctors who are already arriving as part of the agreement with the island.

“If there is a proposal from Mexican doctors, we take it immediately, but the reality is that there is no one who wants to go to those hospitals “They have, on average, 20 beds, an expulsion room, five consulting rooms and a small emergency area,” said Robledo, who was recently confirmed in his position by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum.

According to the director, the arrival of Cuban specialists “has helped” to complete the task of providing surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and gynecologists to rural areas.

Currently, the official said, there are around 600 Cuban doctors in clinics and another 600 are in 282 rural general hospitals. “They are in areas of very high marginalization, where (Mexican) doctors do not want to go,” he added.

López Obrador, an ally of the Havana regime, stressed that the agreement with the Castro dictatorship was designed “to have all the doctors and all the specialists, that is (to have) a doctor in almost 12,000 health centers from Monday to Sunday, not just from Monday to Friday, a general practitioner from Monday to Sunday and all specialties in hospitals.”

Meanwhile, in Cuba, thousands of Cubans will continue without access to a decent health systemwithout the conditions to treat serious cases and without enough specialists to meet the demands of patients. On the island, the health system faces a general shortage of doctors due to the sending of professionals abroad and the mass exodus.

These medical missions, used by the regime as a source of foreign currency, have been condemned internationally. Cuban doctors, who work in difficult conditions and with a large part of their salaries withheld, represent an example of labour exploitation, as various organisations have denounced.
