The two Brazilian athletes competing in archery remain firmly in the fight for medals in the individual events of the sport. Making her Olympic debut, Ana Luiza Caetano, 21, from Rio de Janeiro, won two matches on Tuesday (30). In the first, she defeated Zana Pintaric, from Slovakia, comfortably by 6 to 2. Then she returned to action, this time against the athlete from Malaysia Syaqiera Mashayikh. This time the dispute was very close. The match was tied at 5 to 5, when the game was decided by the “death shot”: Each competitor was entitled to one final arrow. The winner would be the one with the highest score. Then, the Brazilian came out on top, winning by 6 to 5 and securing her place in the round of 16 of the women’s individual event, scheduled for next Saturday (3). The competition opened with 64 competitors in each gender.
