The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) will provide power to 44 percent of the Mayan Train route, as it is participating in the work to build the 690 kilometers that will have electrified tracks.

At the morning conference, the general director of the state-owned company, Manuel Bartlett, reiterated that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador entrusted the commission the construction of all the electrical infrastructure necessary for the mobilization of this monumental work.

The official presented a video with information regarding the public company’s work on the railway project, which will extend a total of 1,554 kilometers through five states in the southeast, of which 690 will run on electric power, which means that the CFE will participate in 44 percent of its journey.

It was reported that in record time, the commission’s workers and technicians developed an infrastructure equivalent to reinstalling the electrical system in Mérida, Yucatán.

This electrical extension, the audiovisual material added, will cover an area larger than that of the Netherlands, Denmark and Switzerland combined.

The electrification project of the Maya Train includes 53 major works, which include 11 transmission lines and 42 substations that provide the necessary traction force through the catenaries to propel the train along the route.

It will also provide infrastructure for continuous monitoring of train speed, position and track changes, as well as stations, maintenance bases, offices, workshops, among others.

On the other hand, General Oscar David Lozano Águila, director of the Tren Maya company, in charge of Sedena, said that since the number of visitors grows every day, since Friday the runs increased from six to eight daily.

This weekend we managed to exceed 3 thousand passengers mobilized, which is requiring us to increase two more new services on this route.

These will be from Cancun to Merida at 11:45 in the morning and vice versa with a departure time at 2:40 p.m.

The remaining trips are: Palenque-Cancun, at 9 a.m.; Cancun-Palenque, 9:30 a.m.; Campeche-Cancun, 7 a.m.; Cancun-Campeche, 4:30 p.m.; Merida-Playa del Carmen, 7 a.m., and Playa del Carmen-Merida, 5:30 p.m.

The official said the train has transported nearly 277,000 passengers since its inauguration last December.
