The call for applications for the new DPS project has started: Solidarity Supply

The Department of Social Prosperity (DPS) announced the beginning of one of the programs with which Gustavo Bolívar seeks to give a turn to the purpose of this entity after his arrival to the direction, through the generation of productive projects to bet on a transition that will enable the development of the most remote and disadvantaged communities.

This is ‘Solidarity Supply’, the strategy that was launched in the municipality from Soacha and which opened its call this week to initially reach the territories that have been hardest hit by armed conflict and hunger.

According to Bolívar, the goal for now is to build 150 solidarity supply points (PAS) in the next eight months, to respond to the needs of the popular economy and help mitigate hunger in municipalities affected by violence and in capital cities.

“What we want is for the mayors of 170 PDET municipalities (with development programs with a territorial focus) and of the departmental capitals and districts to apply to receive the project in their territory. PDET municipalities are areas with a high risk of hunger, violence and vulnerability; and the capitals concentrate a large population that is in a situation of hunger,” explained Bolívar.

The DPS added that the Government will invest around 500,000 million pesos to build 150 supply points of this type in the selected municipalities. These will work in conjunction with the development strategies of the mayors and governors, in order to maximize its impact.

“After this, we want to continue building in all the territories where, according to our information systems and hunger maps, it is pertinent. We have opened the first call for applications, and it will not be the last. This is an unprecedented investment and pace: in the last five years, Prosperidad Social has delivered eight market squares; we are going to build 150 in this period,” Bolívar stressed.

The goal is also to ensure that the PAS have a communal dining room and kitchen, and that their operation is agile, in order to strengthen the fight against hunger as soon as possible.

Territorial entities interested in taking part in the initiative must apply on the Prosperidad Social website, where the terms of the call are also available: PAS description; and a specific form for applying to the program has been enabled on its website.

“Likewise, those who want to benefit will have to have a plot of 1,125 square meters. They must prove that the property is in the name of the municipality and that It is not affected by taxes or risks,” said Gustavo Bolívar.

The call for applications opened on Monday, July 29, and will close on August 16. Afterwards, Prosperidad Social will have two weeks (or ten business days) to review the completeness of the documentation provided by the applicants.

It should be noted that the construction of the PAS will begin this year and in its design This includes hot food distribution points, through community kitchens and dining rooms, which will be managed by the Ministry of Equality.

It also includes a free distribution point for Bienestarina, for the population that the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) characterizes as vulnerable. There will be up to forty market sales galleries, ten commercial premises, a collection center, a kitchen and a community dining room, and a loading and unloading area for products.

The Government also intends to stimulate and reactivate the local economy by reducing the marketing circuits for agricultural products, which will reduce costs, and guarantee storage and distribution spaces for farmers.
