The Río Blanco company reported that the mining project will not be imposed and, for the moment, is in the technical review phase, focused on addressing environmental concerns so that there is no doubt about the protection of water.
“The necessary permits have not yet been processed nor have social agreements been reached, so we are not carrying out mining activity in the area and we are committed to maintaining this situation until social consensus is reached,” it said in a statement.
The company added that “the project could only be developed with social consensus and with the guarantee and security of not affecting the water, since, although it is located in the same territory, it does not overlap moors or lagoons, which can be corroborated by the experts who may be designated for this task.”
He also indicated that “with a projected investment of more than 3 billion dollars and a 20-year operation, it is essential that the rounds participate in the supervision to ensure that the environment is not affected.”
If the project is approved, Río Blanco reported that they will develop “a comprehensive plan that benefits Huancabamba, Ayabaca and Piura. This plan will include the creation of local employment, the hiring of local and regional companies, and improvements in water infrastructure for the areas of influence of the project and for Piura.”
Finally, he pointed out that they must first heal the wounds of the past.
