AREQUIPA, Peru – The Chavista regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela demanded the departure of Chilean diplomatic personnel from its territory after they refused to recognize the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
This was reported by CNN via a publication on X (formerly Twitter). The incident came to light a few hours after Chilean President Gabriel Boric spoke out about the elections in Venezuela.
“The elections must be absolutely transparent and verifiable by international observers who are not partisans of the Government. So far, with the information we have, not all the records that could verify the election have been delivered. Until that is done, we as a country will refrain from recognizing what the CNE has indicated,” said the president.
After the closing of the voting tables in Venezuela, after midnight on Monday, the president of the CNE, the Chavista militant Elvis Amorosoone of the founders of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said that with 80% of the tables counted, Maduro had obtained 51.2% of the votes compared to 44.2% for Edmundo González.
Several governments have expressed their concern and rejection of what has been described as electoral fraud by Chavismo and, consequently, have taken immediate action.
In this regard, it was announced on Monday that the Peruvian ambassador in Caracas, Librado Orozco, will leave Venezuela. The departure of the senior diplomat was announced in X by Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzaléz-Olaechea.
“In light of the very serious official announcements by the Venezuelan electoral authorities, the immediate recall for consultations of the Peruvian ambassador accredited to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has been arranged,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs wrote.
He also said that several countries in the region were coordinating joint actions to ensure that the will of the Venezuelan people expressed last Sunday is respected. “There is no turning back, no matter how long it takes,” added Gonzaléz-Olaechea.
Meanwhile, amid an intensification of protests this afternoon against the election results that granted victory to Nicolás Maduro, Venezuelans have A statue of dictator Hugo Chavez was torn down.
In Coro, Falcón state, protesters took over Hugo Chávez Square, located in the west of the city. The place has been a reference point for Chavista actions and there, they toppled the statue that measures approximately three meters in height.
