The lawyer said that they will deliver a letter to President López Obrador, which is the response to the first report that the federal president sent them a few days ago, and in which he denies the Army’s participation in the disappearance of his children.
“We are going to deliver a document that is the response to the letter that you sent us, which is the one we made public with some details,” he said.
On July 8, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador delivered a report to the parents of the students, in which he rejects the Army’s involvement in the disappearance of the young people and warns that the accusations against the Armed Forces may have the purpose of weakening the institution.
“The accusation against the Army, without evidence, makes me very distrustful and I maintain that it could be due to a desire for revenge by people or agencies abroad to weaken a fundamental institution of the Mexican Stateas they tried to do in the case of General Salvador Cienfuegos or as they are doing now against me with a smear campaign, without evidence, trying to link me with organized crime, basically for political and ideological reasons,”
With Sheinbaum, parents expect progress
Mexico’s virtual president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, will also hold a meeting with the parents of the 43 students, who are confident that under her government the investigation will be resumed and more progress will be made.
“We must be committed and certain that this crime will not go unpunished and that the parents of this family are victims of 10 years of suffering,” said Felipe de la Cruz.
Parents will meet Claudia Sheinbaum at the Mexico City Museum, a few meters from the National Palace.
The two meetings between the parents and the 43 students are private, and it is expected that at the end of each meeting, statements will be made regarding the agreements reached.
