After Miriam German Brito announced that she will not continue in the position of Attorney General of the Republic, the constitutional lawyer Eduardo Jorge Prats considered that the president Luis Abinader should appoint a person to head the institution who will continue to strengthen its independence and who can promote judicial processes.
Among the options that Jorge Prats highlighted are: Jorge Subero Isaformer president of the Supreme Court of Justice; Milton Ray Guevaraformer president of the Constitutional Court; Antoliano Peraltalegal advisor to the Executive Branch; and the jurist Emmanuel Esquea Guerrero.
“Someone should come in that line of strengthening the independence of the Public Ministry, because look at the credibility and trust that the Public ministry “Since the appointment of Miriam Germán, even with the criticisms that can be made of the procedures. There has been talk of Jorge Subero Isa, Milton Ray Guevara, Emmanuel Esquea, Antoliano Peralta; there are many candidates who have the qualifications to occupy that position,” said the lawyer.
«It doesn’t necessarily have to be a career prosecutor. “We need prosecutors who are in the municipalities attending to what concerns people, because not everything is the Calamar or Antipulpo cases, those are the big cases. We are talking about the need to strengthen the career of the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” he added.
Eduardo Jorge Prats stressed that Judge Germán Brito has not interfered in judicial proceedings and that she has respected the authority of each prosecutor in their area of action.
“She has directed the Public Prosecutor’s Office, but each prosecutor is independent of the cases he or she handles,” said the lawyer.
Constitutional reform
In another order, Jorge Prats reiterated that a possible restructuring of the constitutional text could rehabilitate former presidents to aspire to lead the State again.
However, he clarified that the above could be corrected by a transitional measure, similar to that established in the reform to the Constitution in 2015.
The statements by constitutional lawyer Eduardo Jorge Prats were made this Monday during an interview on the television program “Uno+Uno”, which is broadcast on Telesistema 11.
