Vallenato singer ‘Mono’ Zabaleta was the victim of a violent assault last Saturday, July 27, while traveling from the José María Córdova airport in Rionegro on the Medellín – Bogotá highway.

The incident occurred around 2:30 pm when the artist was heading to a performance scheduled for the evening.

According to the artist’s statements, the vehicle in which he was traveling with his work team was intercepted by six armed men on motorcycles.

The criminals simulated a traffic accident to force the vehicle to stop, creating a greater flow of traffic that facilitated the robbery.

Once arrested, the thieves aggressively forced the occupants to get out of the vehicle, robbing them of their valuable belongings, such as jewelry, bags and rings.

The losses were in the millions due to the violent incident. Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the incident and implement additional security measures to protect travelers and prevent future robberies on the Medellín – Bogotá highway.

Fortunately, the singer and his team are unharmed, although the experience has left a mark of concern for safety on this important road.
