NEW YORK.- The majority of the 327 Dominicans surveyed during the 25th, 26th and 27th of this month in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, places where 75% of Dominicans living in NYC are concentrated, agreed that the member of the Political Committee (CP) of the PLD, Francisco Javier García, launched his presidential project with a view to 2028.
The opinion work, carried out by the “Team of 6” led by the author of this chronicle, was random, taking into account the profile, accent when speaking, areas most highly populated by compatriots, regardless of sex, political affiliation, or color, they were asked:
What do you think of the launch of Francisco Javier García’s presidential candidacy for the PLD for 2028, and after your answer, tell us why?
Of the 327 respondents, 208 (63.61%) agreed; 84 (25.69%) did not; and 35 (10.70%) did not answer.
In Upper Manhattan, 182 Dominicans participated, of which 112 (61.54%) voted for FJG; 49 (26.92%) did not; and 21 (11.54%) did not respond. The polling locations were Saint Nicholas Avenue, Amsterdam Avenue, Broadway, Nagle Avenue, Dyckmam Avenue, Sherman Avenue, 145th Street, 162nd Street, 181st Street, and 207th Street.
In the Bronx, 145 Dominicans did so, and 96 (66.21%) were in favor; 35 (24.14%) were not; and 14 (9.65%) did not respond. The survey locations were Grand Concourse, Fordham Rd, University, Kingsbridge, Burnside, Jerome, Broadway and 233rd Street, and Edward L. Grant Avenue and 170th and 167th Streets.
There were multiple explanations for the former Minister of Tourism’s aspirations, including: “The main Dominican political parties already have their presidential candidates, and with Javier García they are now on equal terms.”
They mentioned the FP with Leonel Fernández, and in the PRM figures such as Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo), director of Customs; Carolina Mejía, mayor of the DN and general secretary of the Government party; David Collado, Minister of Tourism; Wellington Arnaud, director of Inapa; Tony Peña Guaba, coordinator of the Policy Cabinet, and Guido Gómez Mazara, without public functions, have already been launched.
They argue that Javier García should be selected for the good of the party and the country, because he has the best conditions for the 28th (demonstrated as a public servant, politician, campaign manager for several elected presidents, integrity, ability, exemplary public conduct, vision and accuracy in his political predictions, among other conditions) that if he wins the presidency in the DR, he would lead it to guarantee citizen security and lower the family basket.
Likewise, guaranteeing jobs, health, electricity, citizen security, organized transportation, combating crime, supporting the countryside, students, guaranteeing investments, both from Dominicans in the DR and residents abroad and from foreign companies, was what the majority agreed to say.
They also valued his sincerity when he pointed out: “Different sectors at the business level, artists, intellectuals, religious organizations and valued friends asked them (FJG) to make their aspirations public, making a kind of evaluation at the national and external level and consulting internally within the party to know the position of the other members who could seek the candidacy.”
“I have made a decision, I think it is the most important one I have made in my life, because I have decided to run for the presidential candidacy for the PLD, convinced that I will be the party’s candidate, and mainly convinced that I will be the President of the Republic starting in 2028.”
He was also critical of the current situation of the PLD after finishing third in the last elections, according to those surveyed.
