Industry awarded 2,500,000 in non-reimbursable funds to 11 projects of businesswomen
Entrepreneurs working in different areas of activity, with initiatives operating in Montevideo, Canelones and Paysandú, were recognized with the presentation of diplomas by the authorities of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM). Their projects were selected as part of the Women Entrepreneurs 8M call, which received 51 initiatives from nine departments.
“There is a whole ecosystem within the ministry to support companies, from very small to very large,” said Minister Elisa Facio, accompanied by the Undersecretary of the portfolio, Walter Verri; the person in charge of the Specialized Gender Unit of MIEM, Patricia Romero; and the director of the National Institute for Women (INMUJERES), Mónica Bottero.
The Directors General of the Secretariat, Natalia Jul; Industries, Susana Pecoy; Crafts, Small and Medium Enterprises, Gonzalo Maciel; Industrial Property, Santiago Martínez; Energy, Christian Nieves; and Mining and Geology, Marcelo Pugliesi, also participated; together with the representative of the National Regulatory Authority for Radiation Protection, Gabriel González.
The Secretary of State highlighted the relevance of the work of the winners and welcomed the fact that the MIEM includes 8M among its calls to promote small businesses and entrepreneurships, in order to favor their development.
Facio also referred to the push for women’s economic autonomy brought about by this boost to their entrepreneurial ventures.
“These types of policies are those that on the one hand support you entrepreneurs, but also send the message to the outside world that it is necessary to join in,” Bottero said. She added that this action has repercussions on the women’s families, the community and the businesses near the projects.
The selected project managers presented their companies to the authorities. 11 ventures led by 14 women were recognized, receiving a total of 2,500,000 pesos in non-reimbursable funds. The list of projects is available on the MIEM website..
The Mujeres Empresarias 8M call for proposals awarded, between 2020 and 2024, some 12,740,000 pesos, a figure that includes the budget planned for the 2024 call, which is currently in effect.
Between 2020 and 2023, the MIEM delivered 9,740,000 pesos to 47 businesswomen members of 40 organizations from 9 departments and 18 localities in different departments.
