Sports leader and former Colorado presidential candidate, Pedro Bordaberry, has expressed his discontent regarding the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an event that lasted several hours and placed special emphasis on diversity, equality, freedom and fraternity among all people.

Throughout the ceremony there were various displays and nods to the LGBTIQA+ communities, which include individuals of all non-heteronormative sexual orientations and identities.

Bordaberry began his X.com (formerly Twitter) account by retweeting a message from the account of a person named Hugo de León, who demanded that the Catholic Church, the Uruguayan Olympic Committee, politicians, former presidents and other figures protest against what he called the “regrettable inauguration” of the Olympic games that took place along the Seine River, which runs through Paris.

“The 2030 agenda is being imposed everywhere with the accelerator pressed, in South America little is said and the few voices that exist are called crazy,” reads a response from a person identified as Valentina Abal.

Without giving his own opinion, just a retweet, Bordaberry also shared the message from the bishop emeritus of Minas (Lavalleja), who commented: “The last supper in Paris?… What a shame! ‘Pure inclusive art’, they say. ‘Inclusive’, yes: it includes vulgarity, rudeness, vulgarity… in abundance. And all for a moment of glory?… What a shame that dinner is!”

Continuing with his string of angry retweets, Bordaberry shared a tweet from the @UHN_Plus account, which speaks of a “strong global controversy,” and attaches an image showing the representation made by sexually diverse people at the inauguration, and below a photo of Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper.

The Catholic Information Agency (ACI) also criticized what it said was a “parody” of The Last Supper, “led by drag queens, during the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games that has sparked a wave of indignant reactions.” This tweet was also shared by Bordaberry on his timeline.

The French Bishops’ Conference has condemned “scenes of ridicule and mockery against Christianity, which we deeply deplore.”

“We thank people of other religious faiths who have expressed their solidarity. This morning, we are thinking of all Christians on all continents who have been hurt by the outrage and provocation of some scenes,” the French bishops said.

For his part, the bishop of Winona Rochester, Minnesota, Monsignor Robert Barron, encouraged Catholics to protest against this fact, which he called “a grotesque mockery of The Last Supper.”

Finally, the former Colorado leader published, in his personal capacity, a digital image in which the Paris 2024 logo can be seen, with the Olympic rings, but covered with a red prohibition circle. And he closed by quoting JRR Tolkien, author of the Lord of the Rings saga: “Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt or ruin what the forces of good have invented or built,” says the tweet shared by the priest Juan Manuel Góngora and retweeted by Bordaberry.
