Maduro: We are the only guarantee of peace

Maduro: We are the only guarantee of peace

The first thing President Nicolás Maduro did at dawn on July 28 was to visit Hugo Chávez’s grave at the La Montaña Barracks.

After 1 a.m., the President and his wife Cilia Flores released a video in which they are seen placing a wreath of yellow, blue and red flowers at the mausoleum.

From a nearby building, some neighbors waved at the presidential couple with the lights of their cell phones. “You can hear the voice of the people,” Maduro said, waving his hands.

Four hours later, the presidential couple appeared again on social media. “In God’s hands, to victory,” the President was heard saying according to a video released at 5:20 am. In the image, the Head of State can be seen sitting in the living room of his house checking his cell phone.

“Look, Cilita, at the amount of videos there are on social media,” Maduro said as Hugo Chavez’s Gloria al Bravo Pueblo can be heard in the background as Flores arrives with two cups of coffee to join in the social media scrutiny.

“Freshly brewed coffee,” half-shouted the so-called first combatant, dressed like her husband: black pants and a tricolor jacket with the eight stars printed in a crisscross pattern like a sash. She hands him the cup of coffee and adjusts her hair, which is tied with a headband. He grabs his own and both of them immerse themselves in the screen of the cell phone that she gave to the Head of State, the President of China, Xi Jinping.

“Look at this: Diana Carabobo everywhere,” Maduro tells his wife, showing her the screen of his cell phone where the military march composed by Lloviznando Cantos, the duo that accompanied the President in the electoral campaign, can be heard.

“This is in Maracaibo,” says the President, enjoying the video where Chávez’s voice can also be heard with one of his battle cries: “Those who want a homeland, come with me.”

While watching this video recorded in Maracaibo, Maduro places the cup of coffee on his left knee.

After reviewing the networks, the presidential couple prepared to leave for the “Simón Rodríguez” Ecological School, located in Fuerte Tiuna, where they cast their vote between 6 and 6:30 am.

Upon arriving at the voting center, Maduro was greeted by Kati Milano Tovar, the school’s director, and then he was approached by a young man with speech problems who hugged the President and took photos. After the routine check at the electoral horseshoe, Maduro came out with the voting receipt that he deposited in the box, to which he left his right hand attached for a few seconds. And with that same hand he touched his heart as if he were saying a prayer.

On leaving, he answered questions from national and foreign journalists. “Whatever the electoral referee says will be recognized,” he replied when asked if he would recognize the results if they turned out to be unfavorable. “In no country in the world are the electoral results given by the Exit Polls,” he added as a complement to his initial response.
