Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Education (Minerd), through the National Competition Commission, reported that a total of 9,698 applicants qualified for the 2024 Focused Teaching Opposition Competition to fill the 7,903 vacant positions in the different levels, subsystems and modalities of the pre-university education system for the 2024-2025 school year, in accordance with the provisions of Departmental Order No. 16-2024.
For the initial level, 11,987 applicants applied for the competition positions, of which 2,763 qualified to expand educational coverage for children from 3 to 5 years old. For foreign languages, in the English subject, 1,110 interested parties applied for the competition and 844 managed to qualify.
For the Primary level, 1,769 teachers qualified, while for the secondary level in the academic modality, 776 Natural Sciences teachers were admitted; 597 Spanish Language teachers; 546 Mathematics teachers; and 352 Social Sciences teachers.
At the secondary level, in the arts modality, the following qualified: 19 visual arts teachers; 18 multimedia teachers; 3 film and photography teachers; 3 artisanal ceramics, jewelry and costume jewelry production teachers; 5 music teachers and 4 theater teachers.
891 Physical Education teachers, 366 school counsellors, 150 Educational Information Technology teachers, 21 foreign language teachers in the French subject, 19 Human, Integral and Religious Education teachers, and 10 Art Education teachers also passed the General Cognitive Skills and Disciplinary and Pedagogical Knowledge tests.
542 applicants qualified for the Professional Technician category. Of these, 342 correspond to the area of Entrepreneurship; 32 to Office Automation; 27 to Administrative and Tax Management; to Training and Career Guidance; 18 to Development and Administration of Computer Applications; 12 to Nursing Care and Health Promotion; 8 to Gastronomic Services and Tourism Services, respectively.
In addition, 9 teachers were qualified for the subject of Electrical Installations; 2 for Multimedia and Graphics; 2 for Mechanical Assembly and Maintenance; 2 for Electronic Equipment and 1 teacher for Environmental Processes; Food Industry and Furniture and Wooden Structures, respectively.
In accordance with the provisions of the Departmental Order that regulates the competition, only those applicants who meet all the requirements will be assigned to vacant positions and designated in the educational center corresponding to the level, subsystem, modality or area for which they competed.
The Vice Minister of Teacher Accreditation and Certification of Minerd, Francisco D´ Óleo, assured that many of the applicants demonstrated a high level of commitment and dedication throughout the entire process, evidencing a solid pedagogical knowledge and advanced cognitive skills, standing out as highly qualified professionals prepared to contribute to the educational system.
The process began with the official call on April 18 of this year, registering 57,740 applicants. Of these, 47,591 completed their registration and after the validation of their documents, 38,588 were admitted, who met all the requirements established in the Departmental Order.
