Agencies;- French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated the security forces on Saturday for their “extraordinary mobilization” during the inauguration of the Olympic Games from Paris and said the bold ceremony on the River Seine on Friday had “made the French proud.”
Macron said the ceremony represented a “feat in terms of security” during a visit to the information and command centre of the public order and traffic department of the Paris police prefecture.
“These games are possible because there are a total of 250,000 members of the internal security forces who will be protecting and monitoring during the summer,” he said.
Some 45,000 police officers and gendarmes were mobilised for the opening ceremony alone, an unprecedented deployment for a public event.
The Olympic Games take place in Paris until August 11 and the Paralympics from August 28 to September 8.
