He President of Congress, Eduardo Salhuanaannounced that they will take action against parliamentarian Esdras Medina, if the veracity of the virtual conversation he had with Richard Acuña is confirmed, where he asked him to be granted a commission for voting for List 1 of the Board of Directors.
“It has to be investigated. It will be determined what happened and in what context the conversation took place. And we will have an opinion on that later,” said Salhuana.
This after the media El Foco broadcast a conversation via WhatsApp between the congressman of Renovación Popular, on July 26, Ezra Medinaand former legislator Richard Acuña, in which Medina writes that he voted in favor of Salhuana. In that context, he tells him that they should work “together,” but that he would seek to have his bench keep the Economic Commission.

“Richard, good morning, I just gave you my support, I hope Renovación reconsiders and can give you a budget and we can work together on everything. Greetings,” reads the photo published by El Foco.
Richard Acuña’s response was: “Good morning, friend, with you there is a great friendship and welcome to your work. […] “Granting a budget for renewal will be difficult at this time.”
This conversation caused great indignation among people and the legislator decided to identify the author of the photograph. Therefore, he asked Giovanni Forno Florez the files from video surveillance cameras that may have recorded the people captured in said image.
“By this means I address you, to extend my greetings and blessings, in order to request that you kindly order whomever it may concern to provide me with a copy of the footage from the various security cameras of the Congress of the Republic chamber of the plenary session held today, July 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., as a matter of urgency, in order to initiate the legal actions that the case merits,” the document reads.

He also considered that these actions seek to damage his image and the ‘search for consensus in the congressional operation’. He criticized that his ‘right to privacy’ was violated by capturing a photograph and reiterated that these events seek to harm to the leader of the Popular Renewal political party, Rafael López Aliaga.
“I reject the misinterpretations of private political conversations, which harm the search for consensus in the functioning of Congress. (…) The right to privacy has been violated by illegally capturing images from cell phones, with the sole purpose of damaging the political image of the president of our party and our bench,” reads the statement.
