Former Dominican President Leonel Fernández held a "successful meeting" with Edmundo González

Leonel Fernández, former president of the Dominican Republic, arrived in the country together with his counterparts Ernesto Samper (Colombia); José Rodríguez Zapatero (Spain) and Martín Torrijos (Panama), all invited by the National Electoral Council (CNE) to participate as international observers in the electoral process that will take place next Sunday, July 28. Former Dominican President Leonel Fernández, in his capacity as international observer of the presidential elections this Sunday, July 28, held a meeting this Saturday, July 27, with the candidate of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), Edmundo González.

“Cordial meeting with Edmundo González. We heard his opinion on the electoral process, his observations and proposals. In general terms, a successful meeting where it was agreed to follow up on the next steps and maintain communication so that the process concludes in peace and harmony, for the benefit of the Venezuelan people,” wrote Fernández on his X account.

Prior to the meeting with González Urrutia, Fernández met with fellow candidates Luis Eduardo Martínez (AD, intervened) and Antonio Ecarri (Pencil Alliance).

The former Dominican president arrived in the country together with his counterparts Ernesto Samper (Colombia); José Rodríguez Zapatero (Spain) and Martín Torrijos (Panama), all invited by the National Electoral Council (CNE) to participate as international observers in the electoral process that will take place next Sunday, July 28.

International observers expelled

On Friday, July 26, more than a dozen international parliamentarians, who aspired to participate as observers in the presidential elections in Venezuela on July 28, were expelled from Maiquetía (La Guaira).

Among them are the leader of the Popular Party of Spain, Alberto Núñez Feijoó; the former mayor of Bogotá (Colombia), Claudia López; and the Argentine deputy Alejandro Bongiovanni.

Earlier this Saturday, the Comando con Venezuela, campaign headquarters of presidential candidate Edmundo González, denounced that Víctor González, former national deputy of VOX, and former vice president of VOX, is currently being deported by the government of Nicolás Maduro.
