“La Oroya, paths of life” is a documentary that shows the soil remediation work that has transformed the town, improving the quality of life of the inhabitants. This is due to the very high levels of contamination caused by the operation of the La Oroya Metallurgical Complex. The documentary was presented by the public company Activos Mineros SAC (Amsac).

The work involved removing contaminated soil, disposing of it properly and then covering it with concrete pavement to reduce exposure to metals. Amsac’s general manager, Antonio Montenegro, explained that soil recovery was a challenge since they had to intervene in already inhabited areas and they had to do it in an innovative way, respecting the urban development of the area.

To date, more than 100 hectares of impacted areas have been remediated, generating more than 15,000 jobs and contributing to the economic reactivation of the area. The remediation projects have directly benefited more than 35,000 people in La Oroya and reduced the levels of environmental contamination.
