The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, Juan Cabandiéstated this Thursday that “we are experiencing an unprecedented drought in our country in a context of climate crisis,” and stressed that the national government continues to work in Corrientes to combat the active sources of fires that in recent days reached the entrances of the Esteros del Iberá.
“We are experiencing an unprecedented drought in our country, in a context of climate crisis that affects the entire world,” said Cabandié on his official Twitter account, hours before leading a meeting of the Federal Environment Council in the province of San Luis. (Cofema) where the situation of forest fires and the protection of wetlands, among other topics, will be analyzed.
In addition, he indicated that the Ministry of the Environment is working “on strengthening the National Fire Management Service to accompany the provinces in the prevention and combat of forest fires”.

“Coordination with the provinces is always desirable to occur in the best possible way. We at this time we are working with the province of Corrientes without any kind of problem,” said the Deputy Minister of the Environment, Sergio Federoviskyin dialogue with TN.
He also pointed out that “the help from the provinces is not spontaneous help, but much of that help has been channeled through the National Fire Management Plan by the Nation’s Ministry of the Environment.”
In this context, “the province of Corrientes has been brigade members from various places in Argentina and several provinces, as well as air means provided not only by this Ministrybut also by the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Defense,” he added.

For its part, the mayor of Mercedes in the province of Corrientes, Diego Caramtold Télam Radio today that they have joined forces from the Army to collaborate “with water and communication” in controlling the fires that affect part of their district and that they expect the arrival of new brigade members this week.
