Ceofan has already made effective the closure of borders in the country in order to carry out the election process this Sunday, July 28
The head of the Strategic Operational Command of the National Armed Forces (Ceofan), G/J Sunday Hernandez Larezreported on Friday morning that the closure of border crossings in the country was carried out in view of the electoral process on Sunday 28th.
Through his social networks, Hernández Lárez stressed that the closure of borders for people and vehicle passage was activated from 12:01 am this Friday until 8:00 am on Monday, July 29; this in accordance with resolution 072 issued by the Ministry of Interior and Justice with other temporary restrictions until the end of the electoral process.
The head of Ceofan explained that the land border crossings of the Simón Bolívar International Bridge, Francisco de Paula Santander, Unión and Atanasio Girardot Binational Bridges in Táchir, as well as the José Antonio Páez International Bridge in Apure state, were closed.

Meanwhile, Venezuelans on the border with Colombia are asking military officials for help to let them through hours after the border closed.

The statement by Ceofan contradicts what was indicated on Thursday, July 25 by the head of the Comprehensive Defense Operational Zone (ZODI) in Táchira, José Gregorio Martínez, who said that there will be “strict control and daily monitoring of people on foot and in vehicles” from this Friday until Tuesday, July 30.

For its part, Migración Colombia stated: “We inform citizens that, taking into account the provisions of the Government of Venezuela, to establish control of the border movement of people from July 26 to 29 and if there are increases in migratory flows at the border, within the framework of its powers, Migración Colombia will adopt the necessary measures and protocols, so that the controls that may be required are carried out in a safe and orderly manner at the authorized border crossings.”
