HAVANA, Cuba.- The mother of political prisoner and prisoner of conscience Luis Robles, Yindra Elizastigui Gardensdenounced as an “injustice” the arrest of another of his sons, currently accused of the alleged crime of attack.
Lester Fernandez Elizastigui, according to CubaNet his motherwas at a birthday party on July 20 when a patrol car with three police officers showed up and ordered the music to be turned off.
“He tried to persuade them that it was Saturday, the weekend, and it was 10:00 in the morning (…) but Officer Yusdel Posada Cutiño approached him in a very bad mood and told him to turn off the music. As (Lester) saw that he was not going to convince him, he turned it off,” he said.
According to Yindra, when his son was about to pick up the equipment, the officer grabbed him by the arm and told him that he was going to confiscate it. “Lester told him to let go of his arm, the officer refused, and my son let go, then the officer slapped him, and my son, being a young man, finally reacted and fought with him.”
After the incident, Lester Fernández left the place and on July 25 he decided to turn himself in to the authorities. He is currently in the Dragones Police Unit in Old Havana, awaiting prosecution, although he could be transferred to the Picota Police Unit.
According to the investigator in charge of the case, the young man will be taken “today or tomorrow” to be evaluated by a doctor for the blows inflicted on him by the police officer.
“Why is my son accused of an attack? An attack on what if what he did was defend himself against an attack? Or because that person is wearing a uniform he can attack and mistreat the people, because that is what they are doing,” Yindra questioned.
“So where is the ethics, where is the concept that I am here to defend and represent the people, there is none, so the aggression and repression continue,” he added.
Elizastigui Gardens She blamed “all those involved” for Lester’s life and safety. “I declared a hunger strike today and wherever they take my son, I will be there, fighting for his freedom,” she said.
Luis Robles’ mother also believes that everything that is happening with Lester is related to the threat she received recently. On that occasion, an alleged State Security agent demanded that she stop fighting for her son’s freedom or he would face the consequences.
“To all those behind this, no one will defeat me. I am a mother who will stand up for the freedom of my children, who are innocent,” Yindra said in closing.
