The Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) issued Resolution 6522 that updates the regulatory framework in Colombia regarding interconnection and access, whose last update took place more than 10 years ago.

This was done with the purpose of giving a definitive boost to the process of technological transition for the modernization of the country’s telecommunications networks.
The entre explained that this regulation brings benefits to users in terms of protecting their rights, includes the vision of public policy to modernize the country’s networks and supports the technological transition.
“Indeed, the regulatory conditions are established within the measures to facilitate the interconnection of calls over 4G or VoLTE networks, which allow clearer telephone conversations, shorter time for establishing communications and lower battery consumption. This will benefit Colombians who have 4G mobile phones with functionality for VoLTE communications so that they can make this type of calls to users of other mobile networks, since today they can only be made within the same network”, the CRC noted.

It should be remembered that this regulatory measure is one of the components of the Plan for the Transition to New Technologies, led by the ICT Minister, Carmen Ligia Valderrama.
Thus, as of June 2021, approximately, 20% of voice traffic in the country was already made through calls of this type, observing a growth of 748% between January 2018 and June 2021.
